Beginners Pottery course – Starter steps
This course is an introduction to working with clay by hand. The sessions will take place on SATURDAY 11th, SATURDAY 18th and SUNDAY 19 October. Ideally you would attend all the sessions but if there is one date you cannot make there is an option to pay-as-you-go (please message us when booking to let us know which sessions you will be attending).
It consists of three 2.5-hour sessions will teach users all the basic techniques for hand-building in clay, as well as visualising and developing ideas. One piece of work will be completed during each session, with the potential for another, constructed in stages during the course.
All the basic techniques will be taught for hand-building; pinching, slabbing, coiling, and a creative approach to press-moulding.
You could make a wide variety of items:
Pots for everyday use: jugs, mugs, bowls, dishes, containers, vases and planters.
Figurative/sculptural: faces, heads, creatures, monsters, etc.
Anything else you fancy!
The final session will be devoted to surface decoration.
Pots will then be fired once before collection.
